Dr. Majed Alotaibi

Project Director

Dr. Majed Alotaibi is an electrical engineer and Associate Professor at King Saud University, where he also supervises the Saudi Electricity Company Research Chair in Power System Security and Reliability. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo and has over 14 years of experience in research, strategy, project management, and quality assurance. He has held key advisory and leadership roles in academia, government, and industry, including at ABB and the Saudi Standards Organization. A published researcher with over 50 articles, he is also a recognized Professional Engineer by the Saudi Council of Engineers.

Robert Kabera

Project Director

Robert is a refugee, an engineer, and an entrepreneur. His background has allowed transformative breakthroughs, from bringing credit scoring to unbanked farmers to designing power systems to prepare humanity for natural disasters. Since his time at Stanford, Robert has focused his work on using artificial intelligence to predict risk across energy, climate, agriculture, and financial services. Robert was named in the 2018 Forbes Energy Sector 30 Under 30 list. Robert is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Robert was honored with the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability's 2022 Early- to Mid-Career Alumni Award. The award recognizes alumni who have made highly significant and long-lasting contributions in the civil, government, business, or academic communities within 20 years of receiving their Stanford degrees.

Ms. Bathsheba Sams

Center of Excellence Lead

is a retired HR executive. She worked in the forest products industry for 39 plus years. She held various positions in engineering, manufacturing, business, and corporate human resources. Prior to retiring, Ms. Sams was Vice President of Human Resources, Industrial Packaging Group, at International Paper Company, where she oversaw 65,000 employees in over 100 countries. Ms. Sams is an alumnus of Leadership Memphis, 2004. She is the 2016 recipient of the Girls Inc. SMART award and was recognized in 2017 by the Memphis Business Journal as a "Super Woman in Business."

Gloria Dallas

Gloria Dallas is one of the co-founders of Envision Inclusion, a recruiting agency that helps startups build recruiting and interviewing processes that are welcoming, inclusive, and fair. She has a decade of experience working in tech and has worked in companies of all sizes and from a wide range of industries, including education, marketing, security, and gaming. She is passionate about making tech a space that is welcoming to people of all backgrounds.

Kara Pierre

Digital Engagement Lead

Kara is a mission-driven product manager and digital strategist with twenty years of experience who is deeply committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) and fostering a culture of learning and collaboration. Alongside internal and external partners, Kara has developed technology and programmatic strategies, launched new platforms, and generated content and communications for large audiences. Kara has also led and participated in many cross-functional working groups focused on product development / management, strategic planning, and team culture / DEIA initiatives.

Sandra is a skilled professional specializing in engineering proposals, project management, and strategic diversity. She excels in financial analysis, resource management, and goal-oriented decision-making. With a process-driven approach, she ensures success in proposals, cost management, and organizational objectives. Known for her determination, honesty, and strong communication skills, she effectively balances priorities while fostering confidence and collaboration across diverse groups.

Herb Levy

Energy Transition Academy Lead

Herb Levy has been teaching science and technology in the Memphis Shelby County School system for over 20 years, including AP and Honors courses. He has held leadership roles such as Science Content Lead and Department Chair, but his true passion is mentoring students from low-income neighborhoods. Committed to challenging low expectations, he has helped students achieve success in higher education, including at top universities. His dedication to empowering students is what drives him.

Sigrid Stanley

Energy Transition Academy Lead

Sigrid’s journey is one of resilience, passion, and purpose. Growing up in a large Swabian family in southern Germany, she developed a deep love for learning through her town’s library. Her path led from asset management at Maizena International to teaching Math and Life Sciences in the U.S. while raising four children. Overcoming challenges, she became a McNair Scholar, a published scientist, a science mentor, and a mental health advisor. Today, she finds joy in sharing her wisdom and teaching youth.

Liron is a seasoned technology investor with 20 years at FTV Capital, a multi-billion dollar growth fund. He previously led software investments at several venture funds and served as VP of corporate development at Fundtech, overseeing strategic planning and acquisitions. Liron began his career in investment banking at Lehman Brothers, advising top tech firms. He holds a BS from Wharton and a JD/MBA from Columbia Law and Business Schools.

Mark Berry

Mark Berry is the senior vice president of research and development at Southern Company, leading efforts in low-carbon generation, distributed energy, grid modernization, and sustainability. Previously, he directed R&D in renewables, carbon capture, and advanced fossil generation at EPRI and led energy and environmental initiatives at Southern Research. With a strong background in industry innovation, he helps drive new energy solutions and business models.

Anthony Kovscek

Advisor

Tony Kovscek is the Keleen and Carlton Beal Professor of Energy Resources Engineering at Stanford University, where he has been a faculty member since 1996. He directs multiple research centers focused on carbon storage and subsurface engineering. His work explores complex multiphase flows in porous media, contributing to advancements in energy and carbon storage. With over 200 peer-reviewed publications and two books, he has been recognized with election to the U.S. National Academy of Engineers and prestigious awards for both research and teaching.
